Quindo Miller

“It’s (Still) Not Unusual” is an installation created by Quindo Miller, Mary Sabo and Mikayla Whitmore. The installation is comprised of nine plexiglass mirrors that have been laser cut into the traditional tombstone form. The reflective plexiglass acts as a mirage, blending seamlessly into the surrounding desert landscape. The mirrors also create a portal for the viewer to immerse themselves with their surroundings. The tombstones themselves function as a type of sundial, shadows and reflections altering throughout the day and night, denoting the passage of time. Functioning as both a tool of self-reflection and catalyst for conversation, the meticulously placed mirrors unearth emotions buried below the surface of the desert dirt. This project references those buried and forgotten in ghost town cemeteries and the narcissism inherent in death.
